Over
the last 15 years, horsehair yarns, woven hair by
hair, have become trendy again thanks to various
well-known interior and fashion designers all around
the world.
The introduction of viscose and polyester had led to the decline of horsehair yarns. Thanks to technical innovation, horsehair can be assembled to become a continuous yarn. This horsehair is combined with linen, cotton, wool, or only with horsehair.
Today, there are a variety of designs, colors and uses, including blinds, sheers and upholstery. The sheers, for one, are woven with hair from the horse’s mane, compared to the fabrics for upholstery made with horsetail hair. It is now possible to weave sheers up to 59 inches wide.
